Dystrophic Epidermolsis Bullosa

Epidermolysis Bullosa is a long name for a skin condition that few people are born with and for which there is no cure. A certain protein is missing from the epidermis (top layer of the skin) that causes the skin to blister very easily.  Blistering can occur from any slight bump of the skin or can occur on the bottom of the feet from walking too much.  Many of the blisters are painful but through time, people with EB (fondly referred to as the "Butterfly Children") learn to live with that pain.  Butterfly children will always wear bandages to protect their skin and allow healing underneath.

Epidermolysis Bullosa is not contagious and there is no cure for it.  There are many doctors working to find help for those with this disabling condition.  To find out more about EB contact the research association below.
