Amparo
"Ace" Perales
Vice President, Advocacy
Hello and welcome to our site. My name
is Amparo, but you can just call me "Ace". My husband
and I have 6 sons ages 33, 24, 22, 20, 17, 13 and 10. I am
the PTO President at Hillcrest School which is attended by my 17
year old son who has Down syndrome and Mental Retardation.
I am also Co-Chair of the School Advisory Council (SAC) at Maplewood
Elementary School which is attended by my 10 year old son who has
autism, and a SAC member of the Westport Middle School which is
attended by my 13 year old son who is in regular education.
I do my best to stay actively involved and work very hard alongside
our district staff as a member of the ESE Parent Advisory Council,
and the Marion Area Transition Team. I am also a CARD Parent
Partner working with the Center for Autism and Related Disabilities
(UF/Gainesville) to provide support to parents of children with
autism. I am driven by this passion to do all I can to help
parents of children with special needs to obtain the best quality
of life possible for their children. With this in mind, I
dedicate whatever "spare" time I have to educating myself
on everything from "soup to nuts" about the disability
community and sharing that knowledge at every opportunity.
I am a graduate of the Florida Developmental Disabilities Council
(FDDC) Partners in Policymaking program (class of 2003).
Other duties: Advocacy, Inclusion,
Transition, IDEA, Grades 6 - 12 and Post-school Information, Estate
Planning.
