Rebecca MacLeod
Hi everyone. My name is Rebecca MacLeod
and though I was born in Massachusettes, our family moved to Gainesville,
Florida when I was just five years old--I guess that makes me more
of a "Floridian". I was officially "introduced"
to the world of Exceptional Student Education when my parents adopted
two brothers who we came to find were SED/EH children. My
older brother, sister and I had our lives changed forever and learned
to live our lives with locked bedroom doors and visits to and from
multiple family individual counselors. Through all of the
special situations that arose from our "special" family
composition, all five children learned the art of sharing.
I guess it was because of this special environment that I took an
interest in the field and graduated from the University of Florida,
Gainesville with a degree in special education. I have been
working with children with autism as an ESE teacher for the past
three years. Prior to teaching children with autism, I spent
a year as an SED teacher working with kindergarten through fifth
grade. As a sibling myself of two brothers with very special
needs, and also being the teacher of children with autism, I feel
