My son Matthew was diagnosed with
Asperger's Syndrome when he was 9 years old. Prior to
receiving that diagnosis, he was diagnosed with Attention Deficit
Hyperactivity Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder at the age of
5 and Tourette's Syndrome at the age of 7. When Matthew was
originally diagnosed with ADHD, ODD and Tourette's Syndrome, there
were no places to go for advice, help or support. I spent many
days on the computer educating myself on how I could help our
son. I attempted to talk to friends and family members about
our situation but no one could understand what we were going through
on a daily basis.
After years of trying different medications
without success and a mother's intuition, we sought a second
opinion. We finally received a diagnosis that I suspected to
be true all these years. I wasn't sad or in denial because we
were finally on the right road. A road, that I drove on for so
many years hitting so many dead ends along the way.
Our children struggle on a daily basis to
"fit in" in our community. Our group's vision is to
work in collaboration to achieve a greater Awareness, Understanding,
Tolerance, Interest, Support & Movement within our community to
better serve the needs of out children. Our goal is to provide
our children with parties/events, camps and other activities on a
regular basis to promote socialization and to build long lasting
friendships.
