"For
Sibs Only"
Stories

Siblings of brothers and sisters
with "special needs" all have a story to tell about what
it's like being a brother or sister of a child with a "special
needs", but oftentimes they have no audience or they are embarrassed
or afraid to share their challenges or triumphs with peers (or even
adults) who cannot relate or understand.
"For Sibs Only" offers
these children the opportunity to express their feelings and share
their experiences with children just like them. At each "For
Sibs Only" get together, the children are given the opportunity
to talk about positive and negative situations that they deal with
every day. They are then helped to appreciate the importance
of their sibling role and recognize the special qualities and strengths
they develop just by learning about and how to live with someone
who is really just like them only doing things in a different way.
They learn to respect others and learn how to pass on their strengths
and knowledge to those who don't have the opportunity to share their
lives with children with "special needs".
From time to time, one of siblings
is willing to share their story with us so that each and every one
of us can see things through their eyes.
