The Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD) seeks to provide
support and assistance with the goal of optimizing the potential
of people with autism, dual sensory impairments, and related disabilities.
Located at six university sites throughout Florida, CARD develops
programs offering support and training for individuals, families,
professionals, and peers throughout Florida. This fact sheet
is made possible through the cooperative efforts of Florida's CARD
Centers.
CARD serves individuals of any age with:
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) -- Autistic Disorder, Pervasive
Developmental Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (PDD-NOS), Rett's
Disorder, Asperger's Disorder, and Childhood Disintegrative Disorder
Related Disabilities - deaf-blind (hearing and vision impaired),
hearing impaired or vision impaired with other disabling conditions
Family members, friends and professionals
Referral are accepted from parents, legal
guardians, medical professionals, schools and community
agencies. Consent to obtain and review records will be
necessary.
CARD is made up of concerned families and
professionals who, since 1993, have provided services to individuals
with autism and related disabilities, their families, and to the
professionals who work with them. Each CARD site has a
constituency board comprised of individuals and/or family members
who help guide program policies, priorities and activities.
The Florida State Legislature allocates funds that are administered
to the six regional CARD sites through the state's Department of
Education. The program has grown to include several branch
offices. To determine which CARD site serves your area,
