Parents
Helping Parents of Florida, Inc. has been assisting families of
children with special needs since before its incorporation in September
of 2002. Over this period of time we have accomplished the
following:
Expansion to Hillsborough, Orange, Seminole, Volusia and Flagler
Counties.
Regular monthly support group meeting for parents.
Increased subscriptions to "The Fountain" from 250 copies
to 1000.
Website expansion and redesign to cover more topics of interest to
the special needs community and provide even more information,
research data, valuable links and resources.
223 contacts with parents that resulted in assistance with diverse
situations relating to children with special needs (95% Marion County/5%
Neighboring counties and out-of-state).
A
year of respite in 2004 so more parents could attend support group meetings.
Over a dozen connections across state lines between families, who are unable to attend
meetings, and their peers by way of the "Parent-to-Parent
Connection".
The "Sib Buddies Network", which (with parental
permission) has put dozens of sibs in touch with children just like
them via telephone and email.
An agency fair and family festival that brought agencies, families,
parents and special needs children together for an exchange of
information in a social and fun-filled environment.
A mobile resource library that provides free publications and
printed materials on topics of interest to the ESE population.
4 Special Family Fun Day Activities in 2005
Attended 40 training sessions between 2003 and 2006 on diverse topics, purchasing books
and securing and photocopying materials that have been added to
our research/reference library that have been loaned and disseminated
to parents.
